3700 Lee Blvd, Lehigh Acres, FL 33971Heading through Lehigh Acres, you've probably seen this little park, but you've probably never stopped. Do you need a few minutes to decompress after work, or a quiet place to eat lunch? Check out this little park. It has a short boardwalk and peaceful marsh grasses and flowers. It doesn't have a lot of amenities, but it's worth stopping by every now and then.
My daughters love to run the boardwalk, and it really doesn't take long to look, get a breath of fresh air, and then get back in your car. It's usually empty, or there might be 1-2 other cars.

8500 Penzance Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33912Love getting outside? Like farmers markets and fresh produce? Like seasonal events?
Southern Fresh Farms in Fort Myers is the place for you! Take the kids out to feed the farm animals, tour the farm, feed the fish and turtles, and explore this working farm! They have food trucks, musical events, and even pavilions you can rent for private functions. Plus, they just opened a microbrewery! This is a great trip for an hour or so with the kids, and it's FREE! Even feeding the animals is an affordable $1. Check this one out! 2000 Cranford Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33916Love hands-on museums? Love History & Science? Put all that together and you've got this little spot in Fort Myers, Florida!
Check out the touch tank, play with the Google Earth Wall, be a Stormcaster! There are a lot of options here, and they also have traveling exhibits, like the 50 year Apollo program science exhibit that was available when we visited! This one is great for kids and adults. 5401 Bay Shore Rd, Sarasota, FL 34243So you have a love of art? You like beautiful gardens and grounds to explore? Definitely check out the Ringling Museum if you're in SW Florida!
On Mondays, you can take in the Art Museum for FREE! Other days, you can walk the grounds and gardens for FREE! And, you can always tour the Ca' d'Zan home and the Circus Museums if you buy tickets. The only other thing we've seen in Florida that compares is Vizcaya in the Miami area. This is great, but for different reasons. Here, you can get that art museum! 3450 Ortiz Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33905This place has a lot of stuff going on! It's a nature center, with hiking trails, wild animals, butterfly gardens, and it has a planetarium! It's actually the only planetarium in SWFL, so it's pretty neat! That's actually my favorite part, too!
Things you can do:
While other places nearby might do the animals better or the hiking trails better, this place's Planetarium and inexpensive cost make it worth a visit. 505 Barefoot Beach Blvd, Bonita Springs, FL 34134This is easily one of the best beaches in SWFL. It has sandy white beaches, clear water, and a fair amount of shells.
Get here early or come on an off day, because all the parking areas can be full! At $8 for parking, it does seem to be a little more exclusive than the cheaper access beaches just up the road, but it still manages to fill up on weekends and holidays. It almost feels like a bit of a secret, as it's off a 3-5 minute slow drive past a really nice row of mansions. Different times we've been here, we've found sand dollars, hermit crabs, dolphins, pelicans, sandpipers, and a bunch of shells! |
